Short Hits

Rather than write a long blog post on the long list of issues that face us these days, I thought I’d write short takes on them.

Voter Fraud.

You are not allowed to say that there was voter fraud in the last election although there clearly were several states where it happened. Many states, especially swing states used the excuse of COVID-19 to change voter laws that paved the way for fraud. If there was no fraud, as Democrats insist, why are they pushing HR-1 in the House and SR 1 in the Senate? If these were to pass it would enshrine the “emergency” rules of the last election in all future elections. It would also be a federal takeover of the constitutionally mandated responsibility for overseeing elections from the states. It is a blatant power grab by the Democrats.

Boys in Girls Sports.

IOC backs transgender weightlifter's selection for Tokyo, says to review rules later | Reuters

Just because a boy “identifies” as a girl does not make him a girl. If he has a pecker he’s a boy and if she has a vagina she’s a girl. Keep it simple. Of course, there is much more to it than that. I guy could, under that scheme, cut his cock off, although I doubt many young men would be much interested in that idea. They only recently figured out how much fun that toy could be. Even if they did, that’s not the only biological difference. Muscle-mass, bone density and other characteristics make men stronger and leaner. It’s cheating to allow them to compete against the girls. Moreover, it is unfair to the girls who compete in athletics and may deny them scholarships to college.

Cancelling Trump.

Can the president cancel the 2020 election over coronavirus? - The Boston Globe

The social media has used the January 6th riot to forbid Trump from commenting on Twitter or Facebook.
The liberals that own these platforms want him silenced. They fear him. The singular policy of the Biden administration that I can discern is to cancel and reverse everything that Trump did. No matter if it was wise policy or good for the country, it has to go. It is not just the border mess that reversing Trump’s policies has caused. Energy independence, lifting sanctions on Iran, soft treatment of Russia, middle east policies, spending money in absurd amounts that will guarantee inflation and favoring Palestinians are all disasters waiting to happen. It’s as if the people in the White House who are leading Joe around by his necktie are so obsessed with stamping out any memory of Trump that they are oblivious to the cliff in front of them.

It’s not just his policies that were cancelled. If he said something was green, the media and the Democrats (I repeat myself) would gang up and insist it was blue. For example:
Trump said early on that COVID likely came from a lab in Wuhan, China. That was poo-poo’d and Fauci and the media insisted that was BS. Now it turns out that is almost certainly did originate there either as an accident of intentional by the CCP. Same with hydroxycloroquine. Trump said it helped and speeded recovery from the virus and the media went nuts. Now however, new studies have come out showing it IS effective.

Training us to obey.

The arrival of COVID has given the green light to authoritarian government officials to flex their need to control people under the guise of an “emergency”. Businesses were shut down, people were restricted in many various ways; wear a mask, stay 6 ft apart, restaurants were either closed or seating limited, border crossings were restricted, etc. The government was training people to obey and punishments for transgressors swift and extreme. One of the most egregious examples happened late last month in Michigan, probably the state with the most insane rules. A restaurant owner did not comply with a closure order and was arrested and thrown in jail. This was on top of a $15,000 fine! Governor Whitner of MI violated her own rules but AG Nessel is not throwing her in the slammer. In fact, she only arrested the restaurant owner after she appeared on the Tucker Carlson show.

So, we will be well trained when the next “emergency” comes along and that, my friends, will be climate change.

The Border.

Rush's Analysis of the Border Crisis Applies Right Now - The Rush Limbaugh Show

This is turning into a real crisis and the Biden team, particularly Kamala Harris, seem disinterested it reversing the policies that have cause it. They do actually want another two million migrants to enter the country via the southern border this year, send them to various states, get them hooked on government handouts and vote Democrat. IOWs it’s intentional.

After the Democrats found out that Trump was going to visit the border, they hustled Kamala Harris down there for a quick photo op. She’s supposed to be in charge of the border but had been AWOL until then.

The last several months there have been an average of 200,000 migrants per month creating a huge crisis in handling all of them. To add to the problem, many of them are testing positive for COVID. To make matters worse, they are secretly flying and bussing these folks all across the country. Talk about a mass spreader event!

This was a big issue in the 2016 election and will be again in 2022.

Biden.

At G-7, Biden is slow, confused and seemingly dazed - Washington Times

It is increasingly embarrassing to watch good ol’ Uncle Joe fumble and stumble his way through his limited public appearances. His staff attempts to protect him by restricting his schedule, tightly controlling the number of questions he handles and which friendly journalists he calls on. I had my doubts that he would hang on this long. I thought they would invoke the 25th Amendment and send him out to pasture. That would make Kamala the Cackler in Chief. This will be a problem. We are learning more about her background and character. Many doubt that she could even pass a security background check because of her ties to Marxist ideals and Chinese associations. The media and the Democrats worked tirelessly to get rid of Trump so as a replacement we get a guy with dementia and a Marxist for a replacement.

The Economy.

Report: 1.2 million part time jobs available

Between Trump and the Federal Reserve they dumped $5 trillion dollars into the economy to combat the effects of the COVID shutdowns and help the unemployed. The Democrats are going to top that number with the recently passed “infrastructure” package of $1.9 trillion and now are threatening to pass, without a single GOP vote, a $3.5 trillion dollar package. Not much of the infrastructure bill actually goes to what we think of by that name and the 3.5T is a socialism and climate change pork fest

The result of dumping all this money is predictable and inflation is surging. Inflation is the cruelest tax of all and hits the middle and lower classes hardest. Gasoline prices are climbing. More on that later. Food prices are rising rapidly, as are autos, car rental and lumber. I remember the inflation of the 70s and it wasn’t pretty.

Opening things up after the draconian shutdown policies would have resulted in growth without throwing all that money at the economy. Doubling unemployment payments plus direct bonus payments from government created the odd circumstances that in many cases it paid better to stay home that get a job. The result of that wrongheaded policy was that employers could not find willing workers! There are over 10 million jobs in the US going begging.

Taxes.

Tax Burden Stock Photo, Picture And Royalty Free Image. Image 15421430.

The massive spending package also has some provisions buried in it that would substantially raise taxes. In general they want to increase taxes on high earners and have proposed to increase the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28% as well as tightening up the taxation of foreign earning of US corporations.

The big hit is to individuals owning stock and that’s is almost everyone when you consider retirement plans. They want to bump the capital gains rate from 23.8% to 43.4%! The Biden plan would also change the estate tax to reduce the exemption from $11.5 million to $1 million and bump the rate to 40%.

In an article in the WSJ today Art Laffer (the architect of Reagan’s highly successful economic plan) and Steven Moore, they remind us of the “Misery Index”, the economic disaster of the Carter presidency in the 70s. The MI was calculated by adding the unemployment rate to the rate of inflation. When Reagan took office it stood at 22%! We lived it and it WAS miserable. The interest rate to buy a house or car stood at 18%.  Biden and his merry band of progressives is leading the US down the same fateful road. Trump followed the same formula as Reagan and the country prospered. Biden is going to destroy that and more.

Oil Shortage.

Energy Crisis (1970s) - HISTORY

The first thing Biden did in office was to issue an executive order shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline with all the materials laying on the ground. Put 10,000 highly paid workers out of a job. Of course, he did the same thing with the border wall. He then banned fracking on Federal land and stopped drilling in Alaska. You get the feeling he doesn’t like oil and gas. So the US that had been energy independent under Trump, was now buying oil from OPEC and gasoline prices rose an average of a buck a gallon from last year.

Voters notice that shit. Recognizing the unpopularity of high gas prices, anti-oil Joe this week was begging OPEC countries to pump more oil! Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up.

Critical Race Theory.

The Truth About Critical Race Theory - WSJ

Parents are beginning to revolt over this teaching of racism in the public schools. Racial tolerance and equality has made tremendous strides since I was in school in the 50s. Why erase all that by teaching children that the most important aspect of their lives is the color of their skin? Why teach children that they are either victims or oppressors based on simply their skin color?

It’s no wonder parents are pissed. Perhaps this will be the lever to break the power of the teachers unions and let the money follow the students to private schools? It’s well past time.

The Polls.

The six-month holiday is over. Biden and Harris are both plunging in the polls, and why not? The above litany of failed policies are beginning to get through to the American voters. Even the mainstream media cannot protect them from the failures. If this mess continues until 2022 the midterms elections will be a bloodbath.

The Strategy

The Democrats have been trying to get rid of Trump since the moment he was declared President.  He is not a politician and it often showed.  He was congenitally unable to resist “punching back” when attacked or finding nuanced answers to provocative questions.  Worse, he often acted like an arrogant asshole.

He had threatened to “drain the swamp” and many politicians, including Republicans, were not much interested in that because all the entrenched politicians were sucking at the teat of the money cow that marches through Washington.  AKA, the Swamp.

The Democrats and Hillary concocted the Russian hoax to tarnish Trump and to divert attention away from the actual Russian collusion of the Democrats and Hillary’s play for pay scheme run through the Clinton Foundation. Diverting attention away from Hillary’s emails was a bonus.  That investigation went on for over three years at a cost of some $35+ million.  In the end it was a big nothing.  I see Hillary’s still hanging on to the Russian collusion narrative despite Trump leaving office tomorrow. Rep. Adam Schiff can’t seem to let it go either and we are still awaiting the “conclusive evidence” he had to prove Trump colluded with those dastardly Russians.

The Democrats were afraid that if he got a second term that the movement he started would be impossible to contain.  He was gaining support among black and Hispanic voters with his policies and his promise of school choice and more charter schools and that held great appeal to inner city blacks with their kids trapped in terrible public schools.  The teacher’s unions were terrified of that possibility, but not as much as the Democrats.

They have relied on the 90 percent of blacks to vote for them  for decades.  The Trump populist movement also brought blue collar workers strongly behind Trump.  Wages for blacks actually went up during the Trump years.

With the economy booming along Trump’s reelection looked pretty certain.  Something had to be done and then they got a gift…. COVID-19 arrived from China.  A disaster and people were dying.  As Jane Fonda put it, “It was a gift from God for the Democrats.”  Pretty cold.  They planned to use it to finally get rid of Trump.  They had a very detailed plan. First, of course was to blame Trump for the pandemic and every death.

To start the Democrats had to find a candidate that they could call “moderate”.  Joe Biden, a five-decade creature of Washington fit the bill.  COVID gave them an excuse to hide him in his home in Delaware and not be exposed to any questions about what he planned to do.  Also, it prevented the public seeing just how “cognitively challenged” Joe has become.

They were sure they could get away with this because during the summer the Democrats hired 600 lawyers to challenge mail in ballot and signature verification rules in critical battleground states.  The US constitution states that the state legislatures are the ones to set election rules.  But, using sympathetic partisan judges, they managed to change the rules without legislative approval.  They also recruited 10,000 volunteers to be present at polling places to “insure votes are counted correctly”.  Right.

So millions of ballots were sent out to people who had not even requested them through the normal absentee system. All developed countries either forbid mail in ballots or severely restrict them because of the potential for fraud.

But states purposely sent out millions of ballots.  Michigan, for example, sent out ballots during the summer before the election to every resident of the state! With no possible means of verifying if those ballots sent in were legitimate or not it seems obvious that massive fraud occurred.  Without a complete audit there is no way to check.  Some states, like Georgia, destroy the ballots after the election.

Other states, critical “battleground states”, had similar mass mail in ballots. As would be expected, the number of votes in this election exceeded anything in modern history.  No one knows how many were fraudulent.  However, now it is forbidden to question the validity of the election.  Even Fox News won’t mention it.  If you say it on social media you are summarily cancelled from the sites.

The second piece of the strategy to get rid of Trump was the collective negative press.  Several studies have shown that the news stories in papers and on TV were over 90% negative.  Worse, they never made a peep about any of his accomplishments.  Their hatred extended to Melania, the beautiful and classy First Lady. Hollywood and late night TV hosts constantly spewed lies and hate toward the entire Trump family.

Of course, the flip side of the media bias was the cover-up of Biden’s verbal and foolish gaffs. The media let him hide from any questions about what he planned to do.  The media praised him for staying out of the spotlight because of the COVID issue.

One of the most brazen of media (social and legacy) was to completely black out the damning NY Post articles exposing the corruption of Hunter and the rest of the Biden family.  This was three weeks before the election!  Twitter and Facebook would ban anyone who tried to send the article to anyone.  This is election fraud and manipulation and exposes the hypocrisy of the politicians who get big donations from these media giants.

The other essential piece of the strategy was to preserve the black vote.  Candice Owens, in her excellent book Black Out, describes how Lyndon Johnson developed policies to insure blacks would vote Democrat for decades.  Every election cycle they pander for the black vote and use it to win elections and ignore them after the election.

Blacks were approving of Trump’s policies and doubting that Democrats were going to enact any change to benefit their communities ravaged by crime and poverty.  They wanted better schools and Trump had given it to them. He also set up inner city opportunity zones to provide jobs.  Trump threatened to chew into the black vote.

During the summer, there had been numerous riots and protests over police shootings of black criminals.  Liberal cities like Seattle and LA were calling for defunding the police.  Then came George Floyd.  Caught on video with a police officer kneeling on his neck, George died.  You would think that the unfortunate George was a saint.  He fact he was a career criminal and drug addict.  He had been imprisoned five times, the last time for five years for armed robbery. At the time of his death, he had the following drugs in his system; fentanyl, meth, cannabis and morphine.  These likely contributed to his death.  No matter.  He was immediately granted sainthood and downtown Minneapolis was burned in horrific riots as retribution.  Black Lives Matter, a Marxist organization, stepped in to riot and protest in numerous cities across the US.  Funding for this destructive organization flooded in from liberals in Hollywood and big business hoping to be spared the wrath of BLM. After another death at the hands of a police officer, Kenosha, WI burned. BLM and Antifa joined protests with destruction and mayhem.  The unspoken narrative being…. If you get rid of Trump this will stop.

George Floyd laid to rest after funeral service in Houston - Times of India

Meanwhile, George received several funerals worthy of Mandela or a past president.  It was broadcast on live TV.

All together, these efforts managed to contain an outbreak of blacks voting for Trump.  This was, of course, assisted by some very questionable vote counting in inner city districts.  Hundreds of affidavits filed to attest to vote counting irregularities simply got ignored.

75 million Americans think they got screwed and the last Trump rally in DC saw a couple of hundred nut jobs break into the Capitol Building.  The Dems called a snap impeachment and a trial will start in the Senate on February 8th.  Unfortunately, the Constitution says that impeachment is for “removal of the President”. But, he’s no longer President!  The Pelosi comedy continues.

Now it is clear that the Biden Presidency is anything but moderate and is, in fact, the most liberal in history.

I Have Met the Enemy and He is Us

Walt Kelly was a cartoonist who created a popular comic strip called “Pogo” that went syndicated in newspapers across the US in 1948. It featured a cast of Okefenokee swamp animals led by the Opossum, Pogo and Allie the alligator.

While it could be enjoyed by children, Kelly also used the strip as his platform to express his political and philosophical views in satire and parody. He made some powerful enemies with his uncanny caricatures of politicians like Joe McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover. All with names changed, of course.

One of his famous phrases during a “war” in the swamp was the slight modification of Oliver Hazard Perry’s message upon defeating the British during the battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. Perry said, “I have met the enemy and he is ours.”

Loi and I loved Pogo during the late ‘60’s and 70’s we used to sing Pogo’s traditional Christmas carol to our kids. Eventually the kids would sing it too.

Sung to the tune of “Deck the Halls” it went like this:

Deck us all with Boston Charlie
Walla Walla Wash and Kalamazoo!
Nora’s freezin’ on the trolley
Swaller dollar cauliflower alley-garoo

Don’t we know archaic barrel
Lullaby Lillie boy Louisville Lou
Trolley Molly don’t love Herald
Boola boola Pensacola hullaballo

It went on like that for 4 more verses but we usually never made it that far before collapsing in laughter.

Bear with me I will eventually get to the point.

Sitting at home sheltered in place or whatever you choose to call it, you have plenty of time to think, and watch television. The body count is listed on the screen constantly like the stock market fluctuations. Sort of a morbid hourly body count. You begin to wonder if Pogo was right, the enemy is us!

The projections on how many people would die from this virus have been wildly off, bringing into question who is creating these models anyway? First it was a couple of million, then downshifted to 200,000 and finally settling in at 60,000. Let’s say they over-corrected and it’s slightly higher to say, 80,000? You also have to wonder if these are the same modelers who are creating the climate change predictions?

With this thought in mind I wondered how many deaths we have in any given year in the US from other diseases? What I learned was that there were 2,813,503 deaths in 2018. Of those diabetes (so near and dear to my heart) was number 7 on the list of ten most at 83,000. That’s slightly less than alcohol related deaths at 88,000. Drug overdoses were 55,000, auto accidents 33,600 and suicide at 47,000. Those were small compared to the biggies…. Heart disease: 647,000 and Cancer: 600,000. The next of the top five were all greater than diabetes.

Did you see that flashing on your TV screen? “Today 20,000 people died of heart disease. Older people are advised to sit this out in their basements and cower in fear!”

Data from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/, 4/18/2020.

The question I have to ask is, have we over reacted to this virus? I say that with full knowledge that my wife and I are in the highest risk group. Over 28% of all deaths are in the 70+ age groups and to top it off, we both have other risk factors.

Data numbers are confusing–of all the coronavirus deaths, over 80% are over 60 years old. The percentages here are those of infected patients, 14.8% of those 80+ do not survive, not 14.8% of the total population.

So, with hopes that I do not alert the Karma Gods, let me say that this virus is not worth destroying the US economy by over-reaction. My wife and I have lived through several really bad economic times. The late 1970s was arguably the worst. The rate of inflation hovered around 12% and mortgage rates were about the same. Reagan, in his Presidential campaign, added them up and called it the “Misery Index”. He got elected because everyone was indeed miserable. He and the Fed went on a campaign to break the back of inflation and interests rates got cranked up to over 18%. Imagine buying a house with that rate to look forward to? With inflation finally under control, Reagan began the largest peacetime expansion prior to Trump.

Naturally, the Democrats and media have welcomed this pandemic misery because it essentially destroyed the major advantage Trump had going into the 2020 elections—-the booming economy. Nor is it surprising that the Democrats led by the Evil Queen Pelosi would blackmail Trump into cramming non-virus funding into bills meant to help workers and business. These career politicians don’t care if people lose their life savings or their businesses. They still have their jobs and fat perks so they can play politics and the little people be damned. They sit on their asses instead of passing legislation to help the workers and businesses. Pelosi has had the Democrats sitting at home while a bill is pending.

Michigan Gov. Whitmer faces fierce backlash over strict stay-at ...

This “crisis” has also brought out the worst tyrannical instincts of some politicians. Governor Whitmer of Michigan has led the way with some of her idiotic and unconstitutional dictates. My cousin lives there so I get some first-hand reports. Some of her more head shaking rules are: no fishing unless in a canoe or kayak. One fellow was fined $1200 for fishing by himself in a quiet lake. His crime? He had a motor on his boat.

The tyrant governor has also banned the purchase of seeds, paint and any home improvement supplies. Of course, you can still get booze but you can’t walk in a park. She has banned driving to your cottage in the Upper Peninsula. Apparently she hasn’t realized that in the sparsely populated areas, “social distancing” happens by default. Oh, nearly forgot, she banned all elective surgeries but abortions are just fine. Essential apparently. Calling them “life sustaining”. Now that’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one.

The people of Michigan are fed up and are protesting loudly. So are other states. The pressure is building and the future of our children and grandchildren is at stake. This madness has to end. Yes, some people are going to die. Maybe me. But as I pointed out, people die every day of other stuff. We are going to have to pay a heavy price for this total shutdown of the economy and the trillions of dollars tossed at it. Inflation is the likely result and if the Democrats take power in January, it will take decades to get out of it, if ever.

China, Russia and Iran may indeed be our enemies, but we may be the worst of all.

Impeach Him!!

The day after Trump was inaugurated in 2017 the Washington Post had a headline that said, “The Campaign to Impeach Trump Has Begun” (dated 20 January 2017).  Ten days later, Mark Zaid, the attorney for the Ukrainian whistle blower tweeted, “Coup has started.  First of many steps.”

In May of 2017 Rep. Al Green in a floor speech urged the House to impeach the President and in July articles of impeachment were filed for the first time.  I guess that was the first time of seven that impeachment was attempted.  So they finally got him.  It took almost three years of constant resistance and help from the liberal media.

It appears to have started even before Trump got elected.  The recent spanking of the FBI over misrepresentations to the FISA court for approval to wiretap the Trump campaign proves it.

Then, of course, the Russian collusion started.  This idea fit right into the Democrats disbelief that Trump could not have beaten Hillary in a fair election.  Enter special prosecutor Mueller and his merry band of Democrat vulture lawyers.  Two years and $30 million dollars later they had nothing and it fizzled like spit on a hot wood stove.  The Democrats had counted on the Russian collusion thing to give them the ax to get rid of Trump.  Meanwhile, with the economy booming along and unemployment at record lows, the Democrats were desperate to find something.  He might well get reelected and probably get to appoint another Supreme Court justice!!

Along comes a phone call between the President and Ukraine.  Time was running out but they figured they could hang this one around his neck and even though they knew the Senate would never convict, they figured Trump might be damaged enough.

Against her better judgment Speaker Pelosi let the majority Democrats vote and turned it over to Adam Schiff, the Chairman of the Intelligence committee.  (He reminds me of a pencil necked, bug eyed lemur.)  Frankly, I think this whole whistleblower thing was a fraud dreamed up by Schiff, the lawyer mentioned above who tweeted ten days after inauguration that “the coup has started” and some Democrat inside the White House.

Schiff ran secretive and unfair hearing, allowing no witness for Trump or his lawyers.  Much of it was in secret.

Handing it off to Nadler’s Judiciary committee they started to draft the articles.  They poll tested several, later discarding “quid pro quo”, “bribery”, treason and “extortion” before settling on abuse of power by requesting foreign assistance in an election.  The second article was obstructing Congress by refusing to send documents and officials to testify.  These are the thinnest of charges and even debatable as to their validity.

Pelosi put the vote to the House.  The Democrats all wore black and each speaker called it a somber or sad occasion.  What a clown show!  No Republican vote for it and a few Democrats voted against it. Sad my ass.  The left was overjoyed.

Her next duty was to send it over to the Senate for trial for conviction or acquittal.  She refused to do it insisting that a fair trial wouldn’t happen unless they could bring their own witnesses.  Fair trial after what they had conducted in the House?  Audacious but laughable. They’re scared the source of the whole coup will be exposed.  And they think that simply laying the impeached thing on him is enough anyway.

To use Trump’s favorite expression, “We’ll see what happens.”

Revenge of the Swamp

Well, the Democrats regained the House and will effectively put an end to Trump’s program to drain the swamp.  I expect nothing of consequence will get done in the next two years.  I think vengeful Democrats will keep Trump busy with one investigation after another and may even seek impeachment.  The Mueller report is sure to include enough bullshit and spin as to encourage Democrats to go after impeachment, even though they are sure they will never  get a conviction in the Senate.  It will, however, generate much breathless news coverage by their allies in the media.

The Democrats are experts at the combat of politics, you have to give them credit for that.  The last two years has been an exercise in resistance and attack.  The Professional Left has been more than willing participants in this campaign.  The media, Hollywood, pro- abortion groups and environmentalists have joined in attacking Trump.  Of course, Trump plays right into their hands with his outrageous tweets and bombastic statements. His instincts are that of a Brooklyn street brawler and it doesn’t play well with many Republicans who, while enjoying some of his achievements, find his behavior distasteful.

In the mid-terms the Democrats were smart in selecting people to run who had a military background and professed more conservative views.  Among many moderate or conservative positions, most notable was that, if elected, they would not vote for Pelosi for Speaker.  The first test of their truthfulness will be the Pelosi vote for Speaker.

The other factor was the energy on the Democrat side.  The motivation to get out the vote and take back the House was strong, and women in particular are turned off by Trump, and they voted for the Democrats in strong numbers.  Hatred is a strong motivator.  Witness the Woman’s March held the weekend after Trump’s inauguration.  The hatred was palpable.  More recently, angry groups harassed cabinet members and Senators while they were out dining with their wives.  The left thinks it perfectly fine to shout down conservative speakers at speeches at universities.

The GOP candidates and Trump failed to communicate their achievements in their messaging, particularly by the national party.  Yes, they got the tax cuts through and cutting regulations and taxes spurred the economy to record highs.  But that was only the beginning.  Trump put the brakes on the out-of-control EPA.  Trump’s EPA ended the war on coal, axed the Obama Administration over-the-top car emissions rules, and reversed the Waters of the US rule that essentially gave the EPA control of every damp spot in the US.  The Interior Department proposed major changes to the Endangered Species Act that gave relief to tens of thousands of landowners. The western states should have been especially happy with both of those, but the GOP did little to tout them.

With tax cuts and a booming economy, two new Supremes and dozens of judges, plus the regulatory relief above, you would think that the message would have been clear.  But the GOP did not have a unified message and it was insufficient against the tide of anger and hate from the left.

Just think about how effective the Democrat strategy was on the eve of Trump’s election victory.  High-ranking Justice Department and FBI officials in the Obama administration, who were big supporters of Hillary, decided to promote the narrative that Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election.  Democrats were quick to pile on to this excuse.   They managed to get a Special Prosecutor appointed who was a dedicated swamp dweller and he appointed almost all highly aggressive Democrat prosecutors to his staff.

This would have two purposes:  First, it would slow down Trump and keep up the narrative that he had somehow succeeded in stealing the election.  Also, and more importantly, it would insure that nothing would be done on the real culprit in election skullduggery committed by the Democrats and Hillary campaign.  It would also delay looking into the obvious issues with Hillary’s illegal server and the massive pay-for-play scheme of the Clinton Foundation.  Exposing all that shit would dog the Democrats for a generation.

The Democrats hoped to stall that exposure until the mid-terms when they hoped to regain Congress and then they could bury it.   It worked.

The Chicago Way and Alinsky

Many barrels of ink were expended and countless trees sacrificed in the aftermath of the surprising re-election of Obama. Many theories were put forward but the statistics clearly showed that it was the turnout of the normal GOP base that did Romney in. Now we are starting to understand just how the Obama Administration managed to suppress that vote as the many scandals are beginning to be revealed.

With the assistance of a compliant left leaning media (more on that later) Obama managed to bury what really happened in Benghazi until well after the election. It is now clear that the Administration lied about what actually occurred and withheld information. Worse, it appears that the lives of Americans were sacrificed because to send assistance would destroy the Obama campaign narrative that the Al-Qaeda threat had been neutralized. That’s why they called it a “demonstration over an anti-Muslim video that got out of hand”. You don’t send in the Special Forces or F-16s to quell a “demonstration”. The Obama team ran out the clock until after the election, an insult to the families of these brave men.

More recently we are learning about the abuses of the IRS in their blatant efforts to suppress and discourage the Tea Party organizations and individual Romney donors. Given the enormous power of the IRS this should be frightening to all Americans. The Tea Party is credited with bringing about the substantial defeats of Democrats in the 2010 off-year elections despite the concerted efforts of the media, Hollywood and left-wing comedians. Using the old Alinsky stand-by of ridicule and accusations they were called racist, tax dodgers and “tea baggers”, a nasty homosexual slur.

According to White House logs the President met with the head of the National Treasury Employees Union, Colleen Kelly on March 31, 2010 at 12:30. The very next day the targeting of Tea Party groups by the IRS began. A coincidence or smoking gun?
It did not thwart the tide of the 2010 elections but the Obama Team was determined to make sure the Tea Party and Romney supporters were not going to keep Obama out of power in 2012.

Lois Lerner, earned her partisan stripes by leading the Federal Election Commission’s three-year harassment of the Christian Coalition. It was the largest lawsuit in FEC history. So, naturally she was the perfect choice for Director of the IRS’s Office of Tax Exempt Organizations.

In my blog post shortly after the 2010 elections I questioned whether or not the Tea Parties would be a factor in the Presidential elections in 2012. Now we know why they were not. We have learned that DHS, as early as 2009, had sent a letter to the FBI asking them to look into “right wing extremists” groups which meant opponents of abortion, advocates of states rights, 2nd Amendment fans and opponents of higher taxes. That pretty much describes the Tea Party groups.

The full power of the IRS with all its intimidating and coercive force was directed at groups and individuals that were political opponents of the left wing administration now fearful of being tossed out of office. This is a blatant abuse of power.

Unfortunately, it was not just targeting Tea Party groups seeking tax-free status but individuals too. Big donors to the Romney campaign suddenly found themselves and their businesses targets of IRS audits. Their personal data was being illegally leaked to left wing bloggers. Naturally, big contributors to the Romney campaign were wary of getting IRS targets painted on their asses.

The tale of Catherine Engelbrecht’s nightmare is the most chilling imaginable. She and her husband own and manage a small metal manufacturing company in Texas that they started 20 years ago. They have 30 employees and have never been audited. Catherine served as a poll watcher for the 2008 elections and was so appalled by the voter fraud she saw that she started a Tea Party and an organization called “True the Vote” that specialized in voter fraud by attempting to stop dead folks from voting as well as other abuses. After applying to the IRS for tax-exempt status for her two groups, the three-year nightmare began. The IRS audited her, her husband and their business for the first time. Then the FBI came calling asking questions… and came back again and again. OSHA did a surprise inspection and audit. The ATF did a surprise visit and inspection, supposedly because the business had a license to manufacture guns. They never had made any guns. The ATF came a second time and, of course, the IRS audited them again.

The question is: Who sicced all these government agencies on these people? This is not just “a couple of rogue IRS agents in Cincinnati”. The logical path leads right back to the White House and the Obama re-election campaign.

It’s also right out of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” and those methods differ little from “The Chicago Way”. The only question for the proponents of this leftist political philosophy is “does it work?” Obama got elected twice in Chicago by using less than ethical methods and it looks like he’s pulled out another one by employing the awesome power of the Federal Government against his political foes. He thought he could get away with it because the mass media has failed to do its job. If you wonder why the major TV networks are so often biased toward the White House and so frequently fail to mention negative news on Obama, take a look at this.

If you watched the smug and arrogant behavior of Ms. Lerner and her IRS cohorts in  the House hearings on this matter, you would think they feel pretty secure and that they have been assured the White House and left leaning press will cover for them. Maybe. But, House Speaker, John Boehner asked, “I want to know who’s going to jail?” Good question but a better one might be, “Who’s going to be impeached?” A good start would be Eric Holder for all his lies and illegalities.

Reluctant Blogger

I said to myself, “Self, forget blogging about current events and work on that short story.” So I did. Slogging away I piled up 13 pages in a story and ground to a halt. After reading it over, I determined that I was telling the tale all wrong and needed a different approach. Six pages into that, I happened to stop by a book store and buy a book on ‘how to write a short story.’ Big mistake. I had never thought about this stuff before and had just been doing it by feel or instinct. I wondered if it was like over-analyzing your golf swing when you step up to the ball? If you think about it too much, you can’t do it.
Meanwhile, some news items on which I have strong opinions were passing by and blogs were writing themselves in my head on my daily walks. But I resisted while the six pages of the new approach to my story languished. For example.

Two women that I admire died on the same day, April 8th. Margaret Thatcher, famously called “The Iron Lady” died on that day at the age of 87. Also passing on that date was Annette Funicello at age 70. The two women could not have been more different. Thatcher, strong willed and determined, rose to political power to be the Prime Minister of the UK from 1979 to 1990 despite the rough and tumble all-male politics of the time. Sticking to her conservative principles, she reversed the economic decline of her country at a time when her philosophical soul mate, Ronald Reagan, was doing the same thing in the US following the disastrous Jimmy Carter.

Funicello was simply America’s sweetheart and came on the scene in the middle ’50 as a youthful star on the Mickey Mouse Club. This was about the time we got our first TV set and young fellows of my vintage were getting our first shot of hormones. Walt Disney was a bit of a prude but he knew marketing. Those tight sweaters on the blooming Mouseketeer girls were no accident. Of course, her later movie career did not distinguish her as much as her determined and classy battle with MS. Maggie and Annette, RIP.

Another story that caught my fancy was the petulant tantrum of the child dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-un. While his people starve and only 26% have electricity in this impoverished country, he spends lavishly on weapons and his million-man army. To get attention, he decided to declare war on South Korea and the US. It appeared he might be crazy enough to do it and then he disappeared from the news with the coverage of the disgusting bombings at the Boston Marathon. The tales of tragedy and heroism and the subsequent search and apprehension of the two Islamic Terrorists (there, I said it; the President and his minions can’t seem to get those words past their lips) took Kim Jong-un completely out of the news. Without the spotlight, he lost interest in his own threats and we have not heard a peep out of him since. Not much to be said about Boston, the coverage was wall to wall.

A couple of other related news items crossed my field of vision that may not have been so obvious to your average news junky. First, the April 22 issue of “National Review” had a cover story on the “miracle of the Canadian oil sands” called “The Quiet Gold Rush” by Charles Cooke. He actually visited the various oil sands projects and saw first hand the process, the restoration of the mined areas and the extensive emission controls. Every “environmentalist” should read this article.

The second piece was in the “Financial Post” on April 13th The FP is the Canadian “Wall Street Journal”. It is called “Hedge fund billionaire leads donors in pushing Obama on Keystone XL”. Tom Steyer who made billions running a hedge fund now has taken on the task of saving the world from global warming. Nearly all rational people are now forced to admit that temperatures have not increased a bit in at least the last decade. I don’t know what it is with these hedge fund guys? They must all feel really guilty about making obscene amounts of money in a business that does nothing but make bets with rich people’s money. Steyer, like George Soros, another absurdly wealthy hedge fund player, all feel they have to remake the world to conform to their own prejudices.
Steyer has decided that his enemy is the Canadian oil sands and has lined up like-minded liberals to pool their money and blackmail Democrats and Obama to veto the pipeline. Not satisfied to sabotage the Keystone XL to the Texas coast, they also are funding the opposition groups to stop the Canadians from building a pipeline to their own coast where they would ship the oil to China. Why don’t they go fund groups in Saudi Arabia to oppose the oil industry there? Or maybe Iran?

The American public overwhelmingly supports the construction of the pipeline (65%) and the Democrat controlled Senate does too (62-37) and well as the House. Now the unions are protesting in favor. Still Steyer and his fellow limo liberals plan to fund Democrat senate challengers against senators who support the pipeline. Great idea, Tom. Go for it.
The news that really got me fired up was that the FAA planned to stick it to the flying public by furloughing the air traffic controllers to meet a 4% cut in spending instead of cutting some other less critical expenses. This was part of the Obama Administration’s cynical attempt to make the sequester cuts as painful as possible so that they could gain political points on the GOP. They were petulant that the Republicans would not agree to raise taxes again after doing so in January and their first action was to cancel White House tours for school kids on spring break. Really? Out of a $3.6 trillion dollar budget the first place you are going to go to find cuts of about $40 billion is tours of the White House for school kids?

The cuts to the air traffic controllers delayed 6700 flights for a couple of days before the Democrats realized they had mis-calculated and they, not the Republicans, were getting blamed for this obvious boondoggle. They quickly passed a bill to allow the FAA to restore the controllers, something they really could have done without congressional action. Whew! Just in time for the congress to fly home for a much needed break.

Note: WSJ article on 4/24 called “The FAA Strikes Again, the FAA Brags”.

The Demonization of Inanimate Objects

Today I was driving around in my car and listening to talk radio. OK, I know, I’m a right wing radical. But Dear Readers, can you really defend the crap that serves as musical entertainment on the radio these days? The offerings of No Doubt? Or, Lady Gaga? Justin Bieber? Come on, listening to that crap would have you driving off the road into a tree on purpose.

Anyway, I heard this guy espousing that if Connecticut (in case you missed it, the state where the recent Sandy Hook massacre took place) had laws restricting the number of shells allowed in magazines then fewer kids would have been killed. He argued that if mags were restricted to 10 instead of 15 or 20 rounds, everything would be just dandy. This is what passes for intelligent thinking on the subject of gun control that has been much in the news in recent days. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but people who don’t know shit about a subject should try to keep quiet. Anyone with even a passing familiarity with guns would know that it only takes seconds to change magazines. That’s hardly enough time for frightened six year olds to organize a counter attack on the shooter.

The anti-gun movement has been all aflutter with this latest opportunity to pass even more restrictive laws on guns. This comes from politicians who see a chance to get some face time and pander to a constituency that consists primarily of people who have never been in the military and have never hunted or owned a firearm. C’est normale.
The sad news is that they will probably pass something and the most likely candidate will be gun registration. Lawmakers will ignore the fact that Canada has already tried gun registration and it failed miserably. It was recently rescinded. It cost about a hundred times more than it was supposed to, compliance was spotty and it did absolutely nothing for the death rate by guns. Nor will the anti-gun folks consider the experience of Mexico that has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the world. They also have a much higher rate of gun related death than the US and fully 2/3rds of the guns in the homes of Mexicans are illegal. Registration simply doesn’t work.

In this image, here are two weapons for consideration. The lower one would be banned by Feinstein’s legislation, but the top one would not.  The surprising thing is that they are the same weapon, a Ruger 10/22.  They are identical rifles except for the added cosmetics.  If you think the bottom one looks scary, you should see it with the round drum rather than the banana clip.

The obvious fact that the only people who register their firearms are the honest owners who would never shoot anyone seems to elude people who say, “We must do something!” What never occurs to these people is to look seriously at the nut bags that do this stuff. Not many gun owners suddenly decide to shoot up a kindergarten. What’s going on with those that do?

It occurred to me that the current push to demonize guns is the same mentality that dominated after 9-11. In the aftermath airline travelers had their cuticle scissors, nail clippers and cork screws confiscated under the absurd theory that an 80-year-old grand mother might use one of these “weapons” to take over an airliner. Subsequent attempts at airline sabotage tightened regulations and soon we were subjected to restrictions on the size of our shampoo bottles. Our toothpaste tubes could not be larger than a bureaucrat’s flaccid penis. Then we had to take off our shoes and belts and have our genitals groped. While grannies were being strip-searched and wheel chair bound passengers fondled, the TSA could not do the one thing that made any sense… profile. Young men of Arab extraction and from Middle Eastern countries do one hundred percent of all terrorist attacks. Is some special attention given to them? Not a chance.
This demonization of the inanimate object and not the person committing the crime is hardly new in our modern society populated by too many greedy lawyers and generous judges. Fell off your bike? Sue the bike manufacturer. Broke your neck on your trampoline? Sue the maker of that thing. No matter that you jumped out of tree in an attempt to launch yourself over your garage, its the trampoline’s fault. No blame is attached to the fools who injure or kill themselves using perfectly fine equipment. No individual is ever to blame for their misfortune or foolhardy behavior.

Like the baby pool I saw on the back porch of my friend’s place. Maybe 3 feet in diameter and 4 inches deep when filled, it had the following warning emblazoned on the inflated tube, “No diving”. Really? You think someone who could read would actually attempt to dive into a pool of water 4” deep? Maybe. So the company lawyers dictated that the message be put there.

Blaming the gun and not the shooter in these incidents is no different than confiscating granny’s scissors or your corkscrew. It won’t do anything but it will give some people and politicians the conviction that, “at least we’re doing something!”

American Idol President

For President Obama dial: 1-866-BaddAss and for Mitt Romney dial: 1-866-DAWhimp. Cast your votes and vote as many times as you want!! Long distance charges may apply.

U.S. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney (L) and President Barack Obama debate in front of moderator Bob Schieffer during the final U.S. Presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida

Big surprise. Despite record high unemployment, a desultory economy, sky-high gas prices, and scary levels of national debt Barack Obama was re-elected yesterday going away. Go figure. Not only that, a number of far left Senate candidates were returned to office and the Senate remains firmly in control of the Democrats.

Millions of words will be written about this election and I have not read a single one of them. Too discouraged. Let me spout off with a few thoughts and then I’m done with politics.

My first reaction is: What the Hell are the people who voted for Obama thinking?! Clearly, for the majority of voters performance had nothing to do with their vote. The first clue for me should have been the popularity of Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift. Neither can sing worth a pinch of coon shit yet they are the most popular singers out there. Likewise, the Kardashians. Why are they famous exactly?

During the election Obama did appearances on John Stewart’s show, Letterman and with other celebrities rather than interviews with serious news outlets. Famously, he had no time to meet with Netanyahu when they were both in NY for the UN meetings but he did find time to go on The View and smooze with the fawning blowhards that host that show. His handlers obviously knew which were the important appearances to garner the votes. This election reminded me of one giant playing of one of Jay Leno’s bits called “Street Walking” where he asks basic third grade level questions of people on the street. Natch, they probably pick the dumbest ones but you are left shaking your head at the end of the bit thinking, “My God, these people are eligible to vote!” Apparently they voted in large numbers last Tuesday.

While that may offer some amusement, the real issue is the changing demographics in the US. Blacks voted 95% for Obama and Hispanics were not far behind at 75%. Women (inexplicably) went 55% for BHO. (I guess free condoms are important after all.) Those groups are growing.

Romney’s candid comment that 47% of the people would never vote for him because they receive direct benefit from the government is, unfortunately, true. Many receive food stamps, welfare, Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. Additionally, government employees are not going to vote against the party promising bigger government. Nor are union workers, teachers, environmentalists, lobbyists and trial lawyers who believe that the Democrats will keep the money flowing and some of it will drift their way. A lot of people don’t want less government spending no matter how irresponsible.

So in a larger sense, Americans are voting themselves into the same hole enjoyed by a number of European social democracies…. Bankruptcy. Apparently the metastasizing national debt means nothing to the majority of voters. Let the next generation worry about it.

Gas prices and unemployment did not matter either apparently. The rogue EPA was of no concern to New York and New Jersey voters who overwhelmingly elected BHO and Democrats. Many of those voters have been out of power for a couple of weeks courtesy of Sandy. Given four more years of Obama’s EPA when they get done with outlawing fracking and shutting down all the coal fired electrical generating plants and the lights go out in the North East for lack of capacity, maybe they will think again.

The Obama guys knew they could get away with blaming Bush even as the election approached: “…Go back to the policies that got us into this mess…” That massive lie was never refuted or even attempted. Yes, it’s complicated but it had to be addressed. Think about it. The current recession is the fault of the unprecedented prosperity we’ve enjoyed since the Reagan era? Or something else? Clue to my liberal friends: It’s the policies of easy money by the Fed and lending money to people who could not pay it back.

This election proved once again that negative campaigning works. Massive numbers of negative commercials in key states early in the campaign painting Romney as a corporate raider and greedy capitalist and that proved effective. The first debate overcame some of the negative image but not enough.

The media played its usual role in cheering on the Democrats and ignoring stories harmful to Obama, particularly Benghazi. This is malpractice but a fact of life. The media and Hollywood wanted Obama and now they have him. Congrats.

After the euphoria of the Obama supporters subsides the hard reality will set in. This election insures that ObamaCare will survive and be implemented and the substantial tax increases and policies associated with it will kick in. The electorate will certainly not appreciate the result. Taxes are surely going up. The Republicans who still control the House will not be able to resist the Democrats in their desire to impose a tax increase on the “rich”. The only question is how far down the income scale they deem the wealthy to be. Clue: The Rich don’t have enough money to make a difference so the middle class will get hit eventually. Creating massive inflation is the only way to corral the runaway debt. I’m certain that’s the Democrat’s hope and plan. Gee, this is going to be a lot of fun.

Unemployment is probably going to limp along. The young people who voted for Obama better be prepared to live in their childhood bedrooms for a few more years. Or maybe for a long time.
